Film South Florida.com: Describe Circ X in 20 words or less.
Brinkhurst: Circ X a Documentary invites us into the lives of extreme performance group Circ X.
Ê
Film South Florida.com: What was the film's source of inspiration?
Ê
Brinkhurst: The source of my inspiration comes from a combination of things. I was originally seeking a degree in technical theater and then decided that film was right for me. After working on several short films I came across Circ X, a performance group, and was mesmerized by the visual beauty they created. At that moment I knew I wanted to work on something that combined my past with my future.
Ê
Film South Florida.com: What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome while making Circ X?
Ê
Brinkhurst: The biggest obstacle I had to over come was being a one-man crew. With no money and limited resources I was on my own. I followed Circ X for a year and a half documenting over 30 hours of footage.
Ê
Film South Florida.com: What was the most memorable moment of making Circ X?
Ê
Brinkhurst: Honestly, I believe that the most memorable moment had to have been finishing the film. When you put two years of your life into a project the happiest day is seeing it completed, but itÕs not over yet, next is the distribution phase, which can be a long and arduous process.
Ê
Film South Florida.com: How important is it to you and your film that it is screening during the FLIFF?
Ê
Brinkhurst: Screening during FLIFF is very important to me. I am surrounded by friends, family, and more resource to help promote my film. In addition, Circ X is a South Florida-based company and has generated a following. With the combined efforts of both myself and Circ X we will be able to run a stronger campaign in promoting Circ X a Documentary. Screening at FLIFF will be great for
both of us. hopefully generating a lot of positive buzz.
Ê
Film South Florida.com: How has living in Florida shaped your vision as a filmmaker?
Ê
Brinkhurst: I feel that living in Florida has shaped my views and vision as a filmmaker in a more conservative manner. I feel strongly about making films in Florida but after traveling outside of my home state I have grown immensely, and this has impacted my vision as a filmmaker far more. I have truly learned how small the world is and thus realized my dreams and goals are too big for just Florida.
Circ X will screen 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 at the AMC Coral Ridge and 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20 at Cinema Paradiso. Visit http://www.fliff.com/2004/listings/circx.htm for more information.
