Delaplaine: Amanda Demanda is an animated pilot for a series weÕd like to do about America's richest 8-year-old girl and her purple pooch, Foo-Foo.
Ê
Film South Florida.com: What was the film's source of inspiration?
Ê
Delaplaine: We didnÕt see anything that told the story of rich kids and the ÒproblemsÓ they have to deal with. Imagine the shock when you discover that Manolo Blahnik doesnÕt make shoes in your size.
Ê
Film South Florida.com: What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome while making Amanda Demanda?
Ê
Delaplaine: Learning the inÕs and outÕs of animation technique and assembling a team in Miami Beach that could competently create a 30-minute short film. That same team is now in post-production on a full-length animated feature film that will be launched on the film festival circuit this winter
Ê
Film South Florida.com: What was the most memorable moment of making Amanda Demanda?
Ê
Delaplaine: Most memorable moment was finishing it.
Ê
Film South Florida.com: How important is it to you and your film that it is screening during the FLIFF?
Ê
Delaplaine: While the film has screened at several U.S. festivals, itÕs very rewarding having it screened in your own backyard.
Ê
Film South Florida.com: How has living in Florida shaped your vision as a filmmaker?
Ê
Delaplaine: Our production company, Shallow Beach Entertainment, is founded on the conviction that not enough of the really great stories that exist here are developed into filmed entertainment. Except for one of our projects, all of our TV and feature films currently in development (both live-action and animated) are not only set here, but will be produced by Florida artists. WeÕre not like CSI, which comes in, does exteriors, and high-tails it back to L.A. to do the rest of the work. They lose an essential South Florida element in order to save production dollars
Amanda Demanda screened Oct. 23. Visit http://www.fliff.com/2004/listings/amandademanda.htm and http://www.shallowbeach.tv/ for more information.
