Film South Florida: What was the filmÕs source of inspiration?

Hernandez: A little over a year ago my parents found some dusty old 16mm film reels in their garage that had not seen the light of day in over four decades.ÊI made Momentos en TiempoÊas aÊgift to my parents, who'veÊlivedÊa halfÊcentury together in two different lands.ÊInitial response to the movie was so good from family and strangers alike, that I decided to clean up the movie and release it to film festivals.ÊOne of my dreams was realized last year when my folksÊsaw the past moments of their livesÑin pre-Castro CubaÑup on the big screen.ÊÊ

Hernandez: Learning how to produce the whole thing, as this was my first film project. Ê

Hernandez: Experiencing life as my parents lived it before I was even a gleam in their eyes.Ê

Hernandez: Very important, particularly because of its South Florida location.ÊFolks can get a true glimpse of life in Cuba in another era.ÊAlso, this will enable some of my family members toÊattend.

Film South Florida: How has living in Florida shaped your vision as a filmmaker?

Hernandez: This is a great state for filmmakers. The filmmaking industry down here isÊjust about ready to explode. There's awesomeÊtalent here.Ê It's so exciting to work with great budding actors, to watch their passion transform your story onto the big screen.Ê
